Poetry & Jazz, New-School Style: An Evening of Words and Music featuring Sean Murphy, Jon Madof and Aram Bajakian

May 29, 2014 @ 9:00 PM - 11:00 PM

A throwback to the old Beatnik days, minus the bongos and clove cigarettes. Murphy, Madof and Bajakian will pass the mic in the spirit artistic solidarity. They will pass the hat for charity; all donations will benefit Chris4Life Cancer Foundation. Murphy will read from his new memoir Please Talk about Me When I’m Gone; Madof and Bajakian –critically acclaimed guitarists– will dip into their back catalogs and engage in the art of improvisation. Sometimes all of these things will happen at the same time. A poem or two may even be read once the caffeine kicks in. Come out for a night celebrating an old school tradition with a postmodern edge.

It’s early in that lamentable decade of the 2000s, and while the good times continue to roll in corporate America, they won’t be rolling for much longer—and no one knows it better than Byron, the Everyman narrator of Sean Murphy’s witty and wise firecracker of a debut. If you liked Joshua Ferris’s AND THEN WE CAME TO THE END, you’ll love NOT TO MENTION A NICE LIFE. Byron might not have a future, but Sean Murphy certainly does.
